Are you a sex addict?

According to Sex Addicts Anonymous, you might be a sex addict if you seek out sexually arousing media (i.e. newspaper articles, magazines, books, movies, etc.) or if you require a variety of sexual activities to keep your interest and provide orgasmic relief.

You only have to answer yes to 2 of their quiz questions before being urged to go to a SAA meeting in your area. While most of their questions are indicative of having a problem, I would argue that wanting variety in your sex life and enjoying titillating reads and movies would probably place 99% of the world's population into the "addicted to sex" category.

What do you think?

Seems to me like everyone's trying to pathologize everything these days. Or maybe they're just trying to attract more sex addicts to hit on. ;-p

THAT WAS MY FIRST THOUGHT TOO THAT THIS IS A GOOD WAY TO MEET PEOPLE THAT LOVE SEX!

I am a sex addict that isn't getting any at the moment. If there are any female sex addicts in the same boat leave your name and number after the beep. Beep.

Sigh ... now I guess this means we need to statt an EC charter for sex addicts because all of the writers and readers qualify if enjoying titillating reads and movies is the criteria they're using.

Hmmmm... maybe I should do a mailing to them. "can't get enough? Looking for some romance with your sex? Well, we've got what you want baby...."

Hey what can I say, always looking for new promo avenues:)

Personally, I hate to see questionaires like this because they trivialize a real problem. Questions 9, 11, and 12 are real problems. The others are only a problem if they lead to obsessive behavior. As with most organizations that aim to help, there's help--and then there's HELP! True sex addicts need HELP!

Dave, you are all kinds of a nut lol!!

Ciana, I agree that some of the criteria they use is a bit, shall we say, vague?? Seriously, that sums up like everybody I've ever met.

Anny, you make an excellent point. If sex is causing someone so many problems that they can barely function then, yeah, they need help. Otherwise, one person's problem is another person's paradise.

Anyone who does anything to the extreme extent of being arrested, engaging in violence or harming their physical or mental health needs help. But a lot of those questions have little to do with sex and aren't harmful.

All you had to do was answer yes to two questions to be "diagnosed" as a sex addict. Jaid's right; that includes probably 99% of the adult population. According to those criteria, if you keep your sex life a secret from your mother and seek out sexually explicit materials, you're a sex addict.

Yes, true sex addicts need help. But people who like sex and have a sense of adventure and creativity about it are not pathological.

*Beep* Dave, I think you need to start HHHSAA Happy Horney Healthy Sex Addicts Anonymous. Or something like that.

This society has become entirely too addicted to pegging people as addicts. Imagine what life would be like without our beloved "vices"! Ugh.

Ok i like sex. And yeah, I read alot about it and watch in movies. Does that make me a sex addict? I don't think so. I am not currently having sex, so to me, this is just safer sex with myself. Anyone else in my boat?

I never discuss sex with my mother (I'm not sure she ever actually had sex)and I regularly buy books from Ellora's Cave. I'm a sex addict and didn't know. I don't think I'll seek help though....bf enjoys the addiction too much.

The way things are going, it won’t be long before that the worst thing you can do will be to be healthy, balanced and satisfied without having to spend money to achieve it. It strikes me that a contemporary group of Founding Fathers would need to separate not just Church and State but Commerce and State too. As for the questionnaire itself, what the hell do they mean by ‘romantic’ activities? And what is question 6 asking? That you’re a sex addict if you avoid sex? Ugh...
