Singles Seeking Singles

It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and you know what that means. Married folks and those in a relationship are shopping for cards, candy and maybe even jewelry while single people are thinking about finding love. According to Search Your Love online dating service, more than seven million Americans a year use dating services to find that special someone and 48% of men and 53% of women have used a dating service. An ezine article puts that figure much higher, at 40 million, but neither cited a reliable source for their figures, so who knows for sure?

Search Your Love also had some other equally non-sourced but interesting statistics about the use of dating services:
“…67% of U.S. single men and 86% of U.S. single women find that someone who smiles a lot is a bigger turn-on over someone who is physically attractive, but has no personality.”
“…48% of first dates end with a kiss.”
“When there is chemistry, 97% of men will call within 72 hours to arrange a second date.”
“…68% of men in the U.S. would not waste their time and wouldn't go on a second date if there was no chemistry the first date. … 56% of U.S. women would go on a second date and hope chemistry develops”

The ezine article, titled Top 10 Dating Statistics Everyone Should Know said 2% of men and 9% of women have found relationships in a bar and that on a first date, men decide in 15 minutes and women in an hour if they want a second date

Online Dating Magazine estimates that120,000 marriages per year result from meetings via online dating sites.

This could mean a lot of things. Do men judge quicker on dates? Do women give a bigger benefit of the doubt? Does it mean that first impressions affect men more than women? Wow, there are a lot of options here.
